It happened around 6:15 a.m. Monday, Oct. 23 in Orange County on the southbound side of I-87 in Woodbury, just south of Exit 16 (Harriman/Route 17).
A preliminary investigation has determined the crash involved a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle which was stopped on the right shoulder and re-entered the roadway into the path of the truck, New York State Police said.
Troopers have confirmed the driver of the passenger vehicle died. The person's identity has not yet been released.
All southbound lanes remain closed during the crash investigation. Southbound traffic continues to be diverted around the scene through the commercial vehicle inspection area while accident reconstruction is being completed.
